Joseph H. Sharp, Untitled, dated 1878

Very rare, early Sharp painting dated 1878, which was a couple of years before he first went to Europe to study. (see page 35 of Teepee Smoke).
He was 19 years old.

The signature shows what he was using before he developed his left to right slant signature. 
On the back of the paining Sharps' signature in pencil is clearly visible, written in longhand and typical of his hand.
